Safe, decent, clean housing is a key factor in recovery for individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders. For over 15 years, Mental Health America of Greater Dallas has led efforts to secure housing in our region that promotes recovery. This includes independent living, transitional housing, recovery housing, quality boarding homes and services for individuals who are homeless.
Boarding home quality is of special concern because boarding homes are one of the few housing options available for many low-income people with mental illness, and because all too often, the conditions in these facilities are deplorable, and stand as a barrier to recovery. Please help us to improve the standards and quality of housing options.
